THE POSI-WEB23 May, 1996
Tonight around dusk I was playing tennis with Amy at Ringer Park. The public court was sunken down a bit, and I was on eye-level with the ground on one side of the court. A little dog came down the hill and up alongside the court, close to where I was, and I watched it squat down and start to pee.
I was feeling pretty amped from playing, and I started talking to the dog. "It's fun to pee in secret, isn't it?" I asked. The dog gazed into my eyes while it tinkled and seemed to understand. Just then two women came down the hill. They appeared to be the dog's owners, and I felt a little strange standing there talking to a peeing dog.
I didn't know what to say, so I blurted out, "I like to pee in secret too." Immediately I realized that this wouldn't make nearly as much sense to a couple of strangers as it did to their dog, but it was too late. I had said it, and it was out, and there was nothing for me to do but return to my tennis game and let them wander off thinking about all the perverts in the world.
Most times, I would have felt really embarrassed and tried to make them understand that I wasn't a pervert at all, but that my mouth just did strange things sometimes. Tonight I just didn't really care at all.
