Submission Guidelines

Due to overwhelming response and the current complete lack of available time on behalf of this site's editors, Birdhouse is currently not accepting submissions. We're sorry about this, but we've got so much stuff in our submissions box that's gone for months without a response that we simply can't take on more until that stuff is cleared out. The submission guidelines are still posted below, but all incoming submissions will, unfortunately, be ignored. We'll let you know when we're back up and running.

We're interested in seeing submissions of all kinds: fiction, essays, poems, dreams, digital or scanned visual works, works in HotJava, RealAudio, ShockWave, VRML, clay, yarn, or tumbleweed. If you'd like to submit Words, please paste them into the body of an e-mail message to submissions@birdhouse.org, no strings attached. Please don't send us documents formatted with your favorite word processor -- just good old-fashioned plain vanilla ascii text. Note: due to the large number of incoming submissions, we no longer respond to all queries. If we decide to accept your work, we'll let you know (though it sometimes takes a couple-three weeks). If you don't hear from us, don't take it personally. It doesn't necessarily mean we didn't like it, just that we didn't think your work was appropriate to the flavor of Birdhouse.

If you have large submissions, like image files, please do not send them to us via e-mail before notifiying us first. If possible, make your work available to us via your own web site or FTP server. If you don't have access to your own server, just send a message to submissions@birdhouse.org and let us know what you've got. We'll take it from there.

Either way, we'll toss your stuff around between the Birdhouse editors and get back to you within a week or two.

If you speak HTML, we always love seeing submissions pre-tagged. You can even send background graphics for your projects, if you have something specific in mind. Otherwise, our HTMLves will use their aesthetic discretion.
